Last month our agent Marion Kelley traveled to Guyana for several days with members of his church.
Marion's mission to Guyana was eye opening for him to see the sub par conditions compared to what we are accustomed to here. The culture there is very earthy. Foods and most everything else derives from the ground. Very seldom do they eat anything green. Most of the food there is called Ground Provisions, also simply called Provisions, a staple dish in Guyana includes root vegetables such as yuca/cassava, sweet potatoes, yams, green plantains, and eddoes. Rice is sometimes also a popular staple.
The Mission was a faith based mission with the purpose to spread the gospel & teachings of the New Testament and how anyone who believes in the teachings can be forever rich in Faith.
Marion held bible study to spread the gospel with 38 students, ages ranging from 5-9 years. Marion enjoyed sharing the stories of Peter walking on water and of him being a fisherman, of which he learned from Jesus how to be. Marion wasn't originally scheduled to teach and stepped up without hesitation. Although, a little nervous at first, Marion soon realized that when he took himself out of the equation & focused on the teaching of the gospel, it was a whole lot easier to just be the disciple he came there to be.
Three children in Marion's group were subsequently baptized based on Marion's commitment to sharing his faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ. This commitment allowed the children to gain a spiritual worldview of their existing and future life's challenges and blessings.
